Things I Fear: Tenth
Oct. 10th, 2012 07:47 pmTen days in and I'm still at it? Well, damn.
#10: CHILDREN
This takes some explaining. I can be around children without any problem most of the time. But I'm pretty strong and quite, quite large.
One comic book or another, I forget which, describes the experience of being superhumanly strong by referring to a phrase that strikes fear in the hearts of any superhero: "You wanna hold the baby?"
I'm terrified around babies because I'm always afraid I'm going to break them. When I saw my uncle's newborn twins for the first time, I ordered him to watch me closely in case I did something dangerous. Not that I thought I would - of course not - but because I didn't trust myself.
