The trees have gone bare
The wind blows colder with each day
But the insects still thrive

The ground starts to freeze
Fallen leaves are its blanket
Last gift of the trees

My cat runs outside
And is startled to find that
The heat has left us

Cold chill grips the air
The crabapples have died and fallen
I close my windows

Soon will come the frost
And with it, the first snowfall
Summer never stays long

In this time of leaves
The sun burns away all clouds
And shines down on us

It focuses through glass
And heats up the very breezes
We trust for comfort

I stay in my home
And listen to the crickets
Through a closed screen door

The rain strikes like knives
Out of clear, unblemished skies
Into the soft land

It comes through windows
And catches me by surprise
In the humid spring

Just as I catch up
And close the windows from the rain
It has vanished like smoke

This spring started warm
And now threatens to turn wet
I dread the summer

Summer approaches fast
I already feel its wet
Heat on the south wind

The crabapple tree
Has shed most of its blossoms
And soon shall bear fruit

I wonder if this year
We shall see pears growing ripe
Or just the dead wood

Heat and heavy damp
Comes closer with each day gone
They will judge the fruit
mancalledtrue: (Default)
The crabapple trees
Have gone into full flower
And the petals fall

Yet the air turns cold
And I feel the harshest winds
Come from the north lands

I look to the sky
And I can see flocks of geese
Fly back to the south

An early spring rain
Falls on me as I walk back home
I still see the sun

The trees are waking
Their leaves unfurl to the new warmth
Soon the first fruit buds

The earliest storms
Tore at the trees where I work
Will pears grow this year?

My body suffers
Only the cold winter air
Can calm its deep pain

I take no treatment
Save to rest and stay in warmth
Away from the new snow

The coming of my cold
Marks yet another step into
This frozen season
mancalledtrue: (Default)
Morning I shiver
Afternoons I hide from heat
Nature is confused

Clear blue skies above
The sun knows no restraints now
Burning at the ground

Fall in a few days
Why does the world not act so
And prepare for sleep?
mancalledtrue: (Default)
The last touch of heat
Caresses the tomatoes
They are almost red

Already the wind
Carries the promise of cold
With the smell of grain

Soon there will be snow
But first, maybe, one last rain
Shall grace apple trees

I see the cornfield
Of my neighbor is near ripe
Perhaps he'll give some?
