Weekend Update
Dec. 3rd, 2012 09:29 pmHit my head badly a few days ago. No permanent damage as far as I can tell, but for a while I couldn't safely bend over.
Bought Soul Calibur IV and Borderlands: GOTY Edition (I love GOTY editions, they save so much time and money). SCIV is proving to be yet another game I suck at.
Haven't worked much on the book lately. No drive or inspiration at all.
Slowly sleeping away my life.

Coming soon...
Aug. 14th, 2012 11:34 pmSo I picked up a book on writing the last time I was in the library... again. I haven't seen much as far as results from these, but then I haven't put much into these either.
If you see random, almost staid writing stretches in this journal in the next few days, it's me performing the writing exercises in the book.

It is a sad irony...
Jul. 10th, 2012 08:23 pm...that it is when I cannot bring myself to write any actual words that all the ideas come flooding into my skull.
(Though I did write a three-page Avengers fanfic the other night in no time at all that's proving quite popular. Why does stuff like that always go over well and my actual work never get off the ground?)

Not Canceled, Just On Pause
Jul. 6th, 2012 09:19 pmThe novel's turned into a chore. I can't bear to work on it because of the sense of frustration and boredom.
So I've decided that I'll stop for a bit, leave it alone, and work on something else. I have a few short story ideas; I'll mold them for a time and see which ones look best.
Once I've had some time for the novel to reset, I'll read what I have and start work on it again.

Looking Ahead on the Project...
Jun. 18th, 2012 10:55 pmI've just passed the thirteenth chapter of the book (where I've ended up revealing something I had previously intended to keep hidden until near the end, after realizing that showing it earlier would make the villain more dangerous). I'm trying to figure out what to do when I finish the first draft.
I plan to set the first draft aside for a while, maybe a month or so, following some advice Stephen King gave in his book On Writing. He advised doing so and then rereading it, so that you could more easily see any mistakes, plot holes, or other sticking points, since you'd no longer be as engulfed by your work.
The question rises, though: I want to keep writing during that month, but what?
I have a few short story ideas, but perhaps it would be a better idea to focus on my poetry. I know it'd probably be a fool's errand to start another novel... Ping-ponging books probably isn't the wisest idea.

Perhaps Being Around People...?
Jun. 10th, 2012 09:16 pmI went to Austin yesterday for a party. As I had a hunch I wouldn't be back until late, I took my manuscript with me.
As I sat at the party, having occasional small talk and cupcakes, I got more done on my novel in an hour than I had in a week.
The change of scenery appears to have done wonders for my work ethic. Perhaps I do need to shift locations more often.

125 pages in and I'm losing my book.
Jun. 6th, 2012 10:42 pmI lost track of where my notebook was the other day. When I found it again, I had no ideas. I managed to pull some together tonight, but this scene is moving very damn slowly.
I don't want to break out of working in chronological order, but all my writing ideas are for either much later in this book or in different stories entirely.
How the fuck does Amanda do it?!?

The Empty Period
Apr. 29th, 2012 09:06 pmI went into this project hoping to get an hour's writing done each night.
Now I consider two or three sentences to be progress.
I have only had one night - my birthday - where I did no writing at all, but the actual overall writing has taken a dip.
I wonder what some people use to rekindle their flames.
