I've got a good amount of work lined up this week, which means I'll make some decent money, and I've actually got some ideas for stories.

So where's the bus to run me over?
mancalledtrue: (zemus)
It's here.

Don't expect many updates.

There are many things I hate about living in the countryside, but there are some things you can only see out here.

Like a hot-air balloon making an emergency landing in your backyard.

So I downed three beers at a party tonight. I may or may not have a buzz.

I don't drink when I go on trips. It saves me money and I don't like the taste of alcohol.

I tried three types of beer at the party and I didn't like any of them.

Today I swore I was having a heart attack. My chest was absolute agony, and I couldn't swallow without it hurting.

It's calmed down now, though I still can't swallow without pain. I have no idea what's happening.

I better not be getting the flu...

My grandmother caught pneumonia right before she was due to take me to tae kwon do.

The Anchor Center was short-staffed, so I was bumped from the list of people needing rides.

My right index finger keeps heating up.

Why is the smallest possible hit the one that hit me?

Hit my head badly a few days ago.  No permanent damage as far as I can tell, but for a while I couldn't safely bend over.

Bought Soul Calibur IV and Borderlands: GOTY Edition (I love GOTY editions, they save so much time and money).  SCIV is proving to be yet another game I suck at.

Haven't worked much on the book lately.  No drive or inspiration at all.

Slowly sleeping away my life.

So...

...what do you buy a baby for Christmas?

We live in a sad country when, on a scale of 300 to 1100, being in the middle is considered "bad credit".  I suppose that explains why all my credit card applications keep getting turned down.

I've never done anything that requires credit before.  How'd I ever get a credit history?  Is it because I forgot to pay for a few Science Fiction Book Club orders when I was a kid?

...that an animated pony hugging an animated baby dragon and promising not to abandon him has the most emotional impact of anything I've seen since this summer?

I nurse the occasional dream. One of them is to take a plane to Alaska, travel as far north as you can go... and then walk. Walk south, all the way south, down into South America. Down into Cape Horn.

That's the entire American land mass.

I'd considered walking that route in 2013, but I got distracted. But I haven't forgotten that dream, and I still consider it from time to time.

When I was taking my walk today, I had an idea. Pack a backpack with 40 pounds of gear and start walking, as far as I can, until I can't move. See how far I can get in a single day. If the folks don't have any plans, maybe I'll do it on Saturday.

I walk three miles an hour. I estimated thirty a day, if I can do ten hours a day. It would be a good idea to get an actual figure.

I have a stitch in my side, my feet hurt, my neck doesn't feel much better, and I don't want to think what today's caloric intake was.

But at least I had fun at the fair.

I tried bacon ice cream. Have you ever seen in a TV show when a character eats something, blinks, and stares into space for a while as they try to figure out what they just ate? I actually did that today.

I got a look today at the new form we're practicing in Tae Kwon Do.

It's 42 moves long, and I don't recognize 2/3rds of them.

Oh, boy.

"On the plus side, doing the war the long, slow way has earned me 339 dimes so far."

I said this in KOL's chat, and someone latched onto it.

That and the joke about an owl with a Beatles haircut seem to have made me infamous...

Many martial artists, in times long past, took vows of poverty.

Martial arts training, in the modern day, costs several thousand dollars.

Ever meet someone who truly hates humanity? Not just someone who gets bitter at the world now and then, but someone who utterly hates the human race, someone who won't accept that humans have created a single thing worth creating, who insists on dwelling on every negative act in human history?

Ever just wanted to show them a mirror and ask them, "Even this one?"

[livejournal.com profile] zeldaqueen inspired me to do this one.

Pick a character and I'll list and explain the top five concepts/qualities/etc. I believe are vital to writing said character.

Saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Not sure what I thought. On the one hand, several good performances and a surfeit of action. On the other hand, extremely choppy filmmaking with an overuse of shakycam and slowmo, a hackjob plot, and a surprisingly squeamish attitude towards its R rating.

All in all, I don't regret seeing it, but anyone else can be satisfied with Netflix.

Now I'm in a dark room, watching my neighbors set off fireworks. Happy 4th, invisible American readers.

It was my mother's birthday today. We went to Red Robin for dinner (she'd wanted to go for a while), and then to the theater across the street.

My parents went to see Snow White and the Huntsman; as I had no interest in such, I went to The Avengers again, and saw several things I'd previously missed.

I got her a copy of The Hunger Games and a bookmark. She liked it.

Meanwhile, Hennepin County pulled shitfits over our insurance, so I've got to go around and make sure the other counties aren't freaking out... At least my hours tomorrow are ensured.

Level Up

Today I took my test for an orange belt in taekwondo. It was pretty simple, all told, even if I'm pretty sure I tripped up on the last step.

I think I passed.

Now I just have... let's see... eight more belts to go.
