Things I Fear: Fifth
Oct. 5th, 2012 08:31 pmAre there really thirty-one things I fear? We'll find out. Here's the fifth.
#5: BODIES OF WATER
I decided to be more specific than "water". I can handle pools just fine.
I can't swim. I've never had an aptitude for learning how. So I have a deep chill whenever I have to travel over large rivers or lakes. God forbid my plane has to fly over the ocean; as much as I'd love to travel to Japan, I think the flight would kill me from nervousness alone.
It's a matter of duration, of course - one of my favorite walking paths involves a brief bridge over a stream. The longer the journey, the more the fear... for the most part. I get nervous riding the ferries at Disneyland, and that's five minutes over a manmade lagoon I could probably stand in.
