Things I Fear: Third
Oct. 3rd, 2012 08:16 pmLet us continue down this fairly elaborate rabbit hole. What's the third of what scares me?
#3: HEIGHTS
"I'm afraid of depths!"
"Heights. You're afraid of heights."
"Heights I'm fine with! It's the depths that kill you!"
- Discworld
I have a very-poorly tuned sense of balance. I fall over easily. So when I look over a ledge and see the ground is a very far distance away, my stomach turns itself inside-out. Anything over about two stories can trigger this, but I'm mostly all right until about a hundred feet or so.
My OCD is in part responsible for why this is so bad in this day and age... If I look over a ledge, I sometimes suffer from the urge to jump off of it. As with all compulsions, I am under no actual need to PERFORM it, but it's still there.
Needless to say, I tend to be given rooms on high floors when I stay in hotels, because fate loves making me its bastard.
