Things I Fear: Fifteenth
Oct. 15th, 2012 07:38 pmJust under halfway through the month.
#15: PARALYSIS
Sometimes, when I wake up, I experience sleep paralysis. My body suddenly goes rigid and I cannot move. As much as I may try, I can't move so much as a finger. All I have is the sound of my heart in my ears, and I have a little trouble breathing.
In some cultures, they attribute this to a witch sitting on your chest.
It goes away in time. I focus on moving one foot, and eventually that foot moves, and my body is free to go. I know the science behind this; my brain has awoken from REM sleep, but my body has not yet made the transistion, and so it can't move yet.
But sometimes I have worries about what will happen if someday, that transistion does not come.
