Farewell, Nanny
Dec. 7th, 2012 09:42 pmPatricia Corporon, my brother's grandmother and a friend of mine, died on Tuesday. Today I attended her funeral.
Thankfully, the reverend (a woman; I didn't know Episcopalians ordained women) was a lot better at her job than the priest who did Aunt Dar's service. She didn't try to witness or grandstand; she just talked about Pat and held mass. I watched them bury her without any anger or regrets.
Pat's husband, Grandpa Dick, isn't going to be much longer. He's frail and senile, and can barely walk anymore. I suspect we'll be going back up in less than a month.
There was a silver lining in all of this: I got to hold my nephew again. Little Phoenix is getting quite heavy. I do wish his mother hadn't given him a crewcut...
