I've probably mentioned this before, but here's how I got Nuisance.
I was housesitting for the weekend. It was Indian summer, so I had all the windows open. The dogs were barking, so I told them to be quiet... and then I heard a cat meowing.
This isn't uncommon - a long time back, someone ditched a pregnant cat in the hills behind our house, and its descendants made up all the cats my family ever had when I was growing up. But I went to check on it anyway.
And lo and behold, there was a half-grown cat in the yard. It didn't run away when I approached it, and it (later found to be a she) let me carry it inside. Our cats at the time hated her, but I fed her cat treats and tried to figure out what to do with her. Clearly someone had owned her at some point, since she was far too tame to be a feral.
I planned on giving her to Last Hope, the local no-kill shelter... and then she started meowing, and so I would have something to yell at her, I started calling her Nuisance.
Never name an animal if you don't intend to keep it.
